Nadal posed for pictures with Brazilian stars Willian, Oscar and Ramires as well as compatriot Cesar Azpilicueta, which the Chelsea players posted on Twitter.

Fresh from beating Stanislas Wawrinka in the ATP Tour Finals a the O2 Arena, Nadal watched the match despite being a well-known Real Madrid fanatic.

No doubt he will have had some interesting thoughts on Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who returned to Stamford Bridge after three years at the Spanish giants.

Summer signing Samuel Eto'o was the hero of the night for Chelsea after bagging a brace before forgotten man Demba Ba rounded off the 3-0 win.

Mourinho's men are now in prime position to qualify in first place from Group E, sitting three points clear of Wednesday night's opponents and a further one above Swiss side Basle. 

'It's to do with their mentality, and they were strong,' Mourinho said of his players.

'After the Basle defeat we'd put ourselves in a difficult situation, so it's fantastic that after the fourth fixture we have almost qualified.'
