Who is he? Largest shareholder at Tottenham through ENIC.

Worth: £2.6billion
How he made his money: The ninth-wealthiest person in Britain spotted the rewards in currency trading. Now has a portfolio under the umbrella of the Tavistock Group, which includes ENIC, owners of Tottenham.
Influence on Bale: Nil. As a tax exile in the Bahamas, the London East End boy made good will have had little or no impact on the player. 
Previous deals: Leaves the running of the club to Levy.

Daniel Levy

Age: 51

Who is he? Chairman of Spurs and managing director of ENIC, the sports, media and leisure company who own the club. Former director of Rangers.

Influence on Bale: Fading fast. Levy has a reputation for taking a hard line and this saga has eerie similarities to the Luka Modric episode where the Croat also claimed he’d been given a verbal assurance he could join Real Madrid.

Previous deals: Dozens, including Michael Carrick (£18m) and Dimitar Berbatov (£30m) to Manchester United. 

Jonathan Barnett

Age: 63

Who is he? Chairman of the Stellar Group, a sports agency with offices in Britain, Africa and South America. Set up the company, which now represents 500 sports men and women, in 1994 with property developer David Manasseh. Clients include Joe Hart, Jack Butland, Scott Sinclair, Kolo Toure and Darren Bent.

Influence on Bale: Massive. Work out what five per cent of £85m is, and Barnett will be delighted to see his star at Madrid.

Previous deals: Most famously, Ashley Cole from Arsenal to Chelsea, a move which brought a tapping-up charge and a ban for Barnett.
