De Gea, 22, was ordered by United staff to bulk up last season after costing his side a couple of important goals by being outmuscled in the penalty area.

But he proved his class by making countless crucial saves during the title run-in and earned a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year following 11 clean sheets in 28 appearances.

De Gea is likely to start for United against the A-League All-Stars at the ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

During a distinguished playing career, Woods turned out for Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers, Norwich City, Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday, as well as winning 43 caps for England.

With United looking toothless up front for long spells during Saturday' defeat in Bangkok, Moyes will be relieved that Robin van Persie, scorer of 30 goals in all competitions last season, is back in training.

United trained in Kogarah, a southern suburb of Sydney, and it seems the work-out was quite intense as Rio Ferdinand tweeted a picture of the squad winding down in a restaurant afterwards.
