Tevez, 28,
went AWOL back to his homeland after refusing to warm-up and come on against
Bayern Munich in September in the Champions League. And, after months of
speculation over his future, made a stunning return to the side to help City
beat Chelsea 2-1, as he set up the winner for Samir Nasri.
However,
without the intervention of former Argentina boss Maradona, it seems Tevez
might not have returned.
"I told
Tevez three months ago that he had to talk with Mancini as soon as
possible," Maradona revealed. "I said that because he was losing
money - but also because he needed to play football again. I told Tevez, 'you
must go back now'."
The pair are
believed to have a close relationship as they both hail from Buenos Aires and
have a love for Boca Juniors, while the Al Wasl coach was reported to have
tried to bring Tevez to Dubai on loan in the January transfer window.
