Karim Benzema (katikati) na Gareth Bale
Karim Benzema managed to take some of the spotlight off £86million Gareth Bale by unveiling a bonkers haircut.
The
Real Madrid striker sported a peculiar half buzz cut, half frizz during the launch for Spanish club's new orange third strip.
Footballers have long had a penchant for bizarre styles as shown by the likes of Giovanni Simeone.
The River
Plate star resorted to drastic measure to try and make a
name for himself after living in the footballing shadow of his father,
Argentina legend Diego Simeon, by turning up for training with a strange shaved top of the head, with long back
and sides, and finished off with a delightful quiff on the crown of
his head.
Cut above: Benzema showed off his new style at kit launch.
Shocking: River Plate star Giovanni Simeone.
Dagenham and Redbridge striker Bas Savage raised the bar for the wackiest haircuts in football with a Spiderman design sprayed on his head.
But the man capable of performing the
best moonwalk in the game and no stranger to dodgy barnets (having
already had a red and blue pattern, a tiger skin style and many
others... all this season).
As Savage joins the long-list of footballers with embarrassing hair dos, Sportsmail remembers some of the other shocking styles to be paraded on the pitch.
Hair scares: Abel Xavier (left), Gervinho (right) and Chris Waddle (below)
Caught in the trap: Dagenham and Redbridge striker Bas Savage sports a Spiderman haircut.
Blue rinse: Savage stands out for former club Tranmere Rovers against Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium in 2009.
Best of the rest...
Joe Cole
Upon
reflection, the West Ham star may argue he was young and foolish
when he looks back at the shock trim sported during a pre-season
friendly at Southend in 2002.
Andy Carroll
Like
Cole, now at West Ham, the striker sported an incredibly stupid
looking style, this during his debut season at Newcastle. It did inspire
his first league goal against his current club, however.
Javier Margas
Apart from offering Hammers fans free
accommodation at his hotel in Chile, the defender was remembered for
little other than his spectacular claret and blue hair dye.
Taribo West
The former Nigeria and Derby County
hardman defender was renowned for his ever-changing beaded hair but it
failed to bring out the best in him during his ill-fated Premier League
spell.
Ronaldo
The Brazil legend smashed in eight
goals at the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea, with his
ridiculous haircut trending worldwide after the Samba Boys lifted the
cup.
Carlos Valderrama
The Colombia midfielder was king of
the crops at France '98 and few (Fabio Coloccini, Marouane Fellaini and
David Luiz) have failed to better his perm since, despite their best (or
worst) efforts.
David Beckham
The former England captain's cornrows
were widely ridiculed in 2003 when he arrived in South Africa to meet
the legendary Nelson Mandela... and best to forget THAT infamous mohawk
too...
David James
The former England goalkeeper has
been guilty of a few howlers during his career... and that's just his
hairstyles! From bleach blonde to frizzy fros, who could forget his
50s-style comb-over?
Who have we missed? Is there anyone you can think of who was a crazy hair style? Let us know below...
