Brendan
Rodgers believes Wednesday night’s two shock results in the Barclays
Premier League will act as a warning shot that will help spur Liverpool
to their first title since 1990.
The
Liverpool manager looked on in surprise and admiration, as Crystal
Palace dented Everton’s Champions’ League hopes with a 3-2 win at
Goodison Park, and was just as taken aback by a 2-2 draw for Sunderland
at The Etihad Stadium that effectively derailed Manchester City’s
chances of finishing top.
Leaders
Liverpool travel to Norwich this weekend, and, after being asked
whether everything was falling conveniently into his lap, Rodgers said:
‘Nothing falls into place for you. You have to make it happen.

Form: Rodgers will be hoping Liverpool can grab their 11th successive Premier League victory on Sunday
‘The
Sunderland result showed the level of our performance against them at
Anfield, when we played really well for most of the game and withstood
some pressure in the last 15 minutes to come away with the points.
‘I
think last night was also a warning sign. It was a warning sign for
everyone that at this point of the season with four games to go there is
nothing guaranteed, and I have said that all the way along.
‘Palace
had an excellent result and Sunderland were within minutes of getting a
great victory. That was the biggest message I got from last night. Yes,
one of our rivals might have dropped points, but that is irrelevant.
You have to do your own job. The warning signs are there.
Leader: Rodgers addresses his Liverpool players ahead on training on Thursday
‘Look at our performance last weekend, against City. For the first 45 minutes, we were unplayable, and that was against a top group of players who have scored a lot of goals and some of whom are world class.
‘We showed, in the other parts in the game, our focus and resilience. We never look too far ahead, that’s key. It doesn’t matter about Chelsea, Palace or Newcastle. We have to do the job against Norwich.
‘It was 20 minutes, against City, at the beginning of the second half, where we had to stand up and be counted.
Confident: Liverpool will be hoping to build on their impressive 3-2 victory against Manchester City on Sunday
When you have the biggest wage bill
in sport you have to perform at some stage in the game. Then we came
back and showed what great teams do, they show resilience and quality.
‘There
have been a lot of questions about this team, but we have come up with
all the solutions. We certainly don’t have our hands up in the air,
because the finishing line is still a wee bit out.
'We
just need to focus and keep producing the performances that we have and
if we do that we will hopefully take three points at the weekend.’
Rodgers revealed that Daniel Sturridge is ‘struggling’ to be fit for Norwich, due to a hamstring injury.
