Selection battle: Oscar is Chelsea's first-choice No 10, left, but Juan Mata is vying for the same position
Challenge: Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has told Mata he will have to learn how to play alongside Oscar
Selection poser: David Luiz, left, is set to lose his place to John Terry
Encouraging figures: Chelsea are playing more attractive football under Mourinho according to the statistics
Jose Mourinho has insisted he will not allow two ‘ugly results’ to deflect his plan to beautify Chelsea — and that appears to be bad news for Juan Mata and David Luiz.
Oscar will be the first-choice No 10 this season and Mourinho has told Mata he must adapt his game to become a certain starter alongside the Brazilian.
The Chelsea boss is also set to axe Luiz for the game against Fulham and recall John Terry, who was rested for Wednesday’s defeat by Basle in the Champions League.
‘Oscar is my No 10 and, if somebody tells me that Oscar is not Chelsea’s best player since the beginning of the season, I would have to disagree,’ said Mourinho.
He was asked, is it up to Mata to dislodge Oscar?
‘Yes.’ Can’t they play together? ‘They can, when he adapts to it.’
Mourinho explained he wants Brazil’s No 10 to be Chelsea’s No 10 and the others will have to fit in around him, including Mata.
‘He (Mata) played against Everton from the start and you can analyse his performance,’ said Mourinho.
‘He played against Basle, not like Ba or Mikel coming in to rescue the game, but he came on when the team were winning 1-0 and had specific tasks.
‘The reasons why he’s not playing so much are things I can speak about with him but not with you.’
Mourinho is aware that Mata is the darling of Stamford Bridge, and added: ‘I have to prove to the fans that I am good.
Out of favour: Mata, left, has found himself second choice to Oscar at Chelsea this season
Fine form: Oscar has started off the season excellently for Chelsea
Confident: Mourinho was relaxed about team's current dip in form

‘It
is one thing to play with Ramires and Oscar in the side, with them
closing each side and Mata as a No 10, with clever passes, fantastic
actions, because he has great talent.
‘It
is another thing to adapt to the way we want to play. I am not ready to
play with Oscar following full backs to the end of the earth.
'I want
Oscar as my No 10 and I want the other two players from the sides to
adapt to that and learn how to do things they were not ready to do
before.’
Mata has started
only twice this season and is yet to complete 90 minutes.
Luiz has started the last three games after missing the first three with an
injury.
After losing at home to Basle, having lost at Everton, Mourinho
criticised the ‘maturity’ and ‘personality’ of his players.

Tough week: Mourinho's Chelsea have suffered two successive losses
‘I
don’t like the way Chelsea were playing in the last couple of years,’
he added. ‘The club doesn’t like it. We want to change. We had one
meeting, not five or 10 or 20, and in that meeting we were all convinced
this is the way we want to do it.
‘Mr Abramovich is my boss. Directly and indirectly we are in contact every week.
‘I
explain what I’m doing because that’s my job. Is he upset with the
results? I hope so. ‘The project is beautiful. We had two very ugly
results. We don’t like them. It is a problem, but I accept criticism.’
Watford have signed Josh McEachran on loan.
Impromptu visit: Roman Abramovich visited the
Chelsea dressing room after the loss to Basle but Mourinho did not see
this as a problem
