Jilted: Rafa left former wife Slyvie on New year's Eve after a big row
Former Spurs midfielder Rafael van der Vaart made a first public appearance with Sabia Boulahrouz nine months after the explosive end to his marriage to Sylvie van der Vaart.
The complicated love triangle saw Rafa leave his former wife on New Year's Eve after admitting to hitting her in the row. Although the Hamburg player said his relationship with Sabia, wife of former Holland and Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz, didn't begin until after he had split from his wife.
And as the pair appeared at the Night of Legends event in Hamburg, Germany, Van der Vaart could barely keep his hands off Sabia as they cosied up at a table.
Van der Vaart apologised for hitting Sylvie.
‘It was very foolish of me. I’m an idiot. I’m very sorry. It should never have happened,' he told german newspaper Bild.
'I am very sad that it did not work with us. We are the culprits. Sylvie alone and I have to answer for it, that our marriage does not work.'
Meanwhile Sylvie is quoted as saying: 'We have unfortunately drifted apart over time. It was a gradual process that was not easy to stop. Even though it sounds weird, we still love and respect each other.'
