Kenya prime Minister irked by hooliganism in football

Kenya Prime Minister Raila Odinga has directed Kenya Football administrators to clamp down on hooliganism to save the sport from being isolated by corporates.

The premier said hooliganism is slowly creeping back when the game is beginning to pick up and called for concerted effort by stakeholders to contain the vice.
He further challenged football administrators to ensure those trusted  with handling matches led by referees and linesmen are people of integrity and whose commitment and professionalism are above  reproach.
Odinga made the remarks on Thursday night when he presided over the launching of a new book authored by Harambee Stars and Afc Leopards striker Allan Wanga at a Nairobi Hotel.
The Premier further challenged Harambee Stars to work hard and remain focused in their remaining Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.
”I came  here, added Raila, to remind the players that Kenya has to be at the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup... It is a challenge I have posed time and again to my friend Sam Nyamweya and leaders of all other teams. We have waited for too long. I’m aware our team faces numerous challenges.Often they have to deal with multiple coaching changes at short notices and allowances are often not paid in time .You have to stay focused on your ultimate goal.”
He appealed to managers running the National team to do everything to ensure the players have access to the best training possible. He thanked Mumias Sugar company for sponsoring AFC Leopards which is a communal club. He called upon other corporates and companies to emulate Mumias company. He said both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards that
command massive following must be supported so that they can thrive and bring fans back to the game.
He paid tribute to Allan Wanga saying he becomes the first Kenyan soccer player to put his thoughts and his life in a book. ‘What Allan has done in this small book is  a big statement on the power of focus, dedication and discipline. All these traits are critical to
success in life. I just want to remind him that he only needs to stay on this path, and the future will offer numerous opportunities.
‘I also want to thank Allan together with James Situma for those two goals that made us proud when they beat Togo 2-1 in the first leg of the Africa cup of Nation’s qualifiers staged in Nairobi. But there is a second leg coming against Togo and then we have matches against Malawi, Namibia and Nigeria, this year” Observed Raila.
