David Moyes may not be facing the immediate sack at Manchester United
but he is beginning to look like a lame duck and Louis van Gaal is
lurking ominously in the background.
The New York Stock Exchange could well be preparing a statement to
announce Moyes’ dismissal if he cannot muster his troops to reach the
Champions League quarter-finals.
The former Everton boss was 33/1 with Ladbrokes to be the next
Premier League manager to leave his post before Tuesday’s dismal display
at Olympiakos but he was cut to 6/1 on Wednesday morning only to be
backed off the boards and into 8/11.
A market has already been formed to name Moyes’ successor and Sir
Alex Ferguson is 2/1 favourite with Bet Victor, but it would be a major
shock if he returns from retirement to clean up the current mess.
Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is 8/1 with Bet Victor to be the
next head coach at Old Trafford and Michael Laudrup is 25/1 with Stan
James but the candidate who makes the most sense is former Barcelona and
Bayern Munich boss Van Gaal at 14/1 with Bet Victor.
However, LVG wants to lead Holland in this summer’s World Cup so
there is every chance Moyes will remain as United manager at least until
the end of the season.
Stan James go 4/7 Moyes is not in charge on the last day of the
campaign but it is worth backing him at 5/4 with the same firm to still
be in charge when the curtain comes down on the current campaign as he
keeps the manager’s seat warm for Van Gaal.
